I started this post around 8:00 New Year's Eve, but our off-the-hook celebration got in the way. Roger planned a romantic lobster dinner for two. OK. It was romantic for us, but certainly not for the unfortunate live lobsters that Delaney delighted in helping us pick out at the store. And although she got a kick out of her new, wiggly friends I have a feeling she'll never eat one. I came home from my pedicure later that day to find her perched in her highchair watching Roger butcher them as she said with trepidation, "No, Daddy. I no want no lobsters. No lobsters!" Probably not the best way to introduce your toddler to that particular delicacy, but I digress.
I put Delaney to bed while Roger slaved over a hot (and murderous) kitchen. We dined by candlelight and sipped champagne, enjoying one of the best adult conversations we've had in ages. We watched half a DVD and switched to the TV just in time to watch the ball drop and share a midnight snog. I think we were in bed by 12:30. Like I said: OFF THE HOOK.
We spent New Year's Day at a pot-luck brunch thrown by some supper-club friends. It was a gorgeous and cool day. The adults sat in the sun sipping coffee spiked with Bailey's and chatting while the kids played on the jungle gym, in the sandbox, on the swing set and in a toy house. Delaney had a fantastic time pretending to bake cakes with the older girls and we had to drag her away for the naptime that
her father and I she desperately needed.
Our holidays were full of fun and family and the only thing more I could have asked for was to have our entire family all together so we could spend time with everyone at once. Still, Roger was able to visit Indiana for a few days and spend quality time with Delaney's Big Sis, Big Brother and Wizzerbelle. We know that very soon we'll celebrate the holidays as one big family.
What are my hopes and dreams for 2007? Some are kind of private but I hope to share them here one day if the timing seems right. I do hope that 2007 will bring more visits to and from our family in Indiana. I hope that this year truly is, "The Year of the (BIGGER) House," as last year was not fated to be. I want to become a better writer and hope that the new blogs I'm writing for will help me stretch my skills so I can accomplish that this year. As far as The Delaney Diaries goes, I'll keep writing here as often as I can and I plan to include lengthier book reviews. I've also got a new blog idea percolating. I'll definitely share the details with you as soon as it's closer to fruition. I can promise that it'll be lots of naughty fun and I'll need your help to make it successful.
Lastly, I want 2007 to be the year I learn to give up control. I'm a full-on, in-your-face control freak and I think that loosening up, and eventually giving up, control will strengthen my relationships with others and help me decrease the stress I put myself under. This is a lofty goal and those of you who know me well can get your laughing butts up off the floor now. I realize I'm about as likely to achieve this goal as I am to drop 50 pounds in a week, but if I don't try I'll never get there. It'll be an interesting journey. Let's get it on, 2007.
