Go Potty Go!

As a parent of a just-turned-two-year-old, the promise of diaper-free grocery lists looms large. Although we bought a potty for Delaney back in October, I didn't expect to get serious about potty training (or potty learning as some call it) until she was at least two or two and a half. With that time frame in mind, I also paid attention to what family and friends said and what I've read in many blogs: most kids won't start going regularly in a potty until they're good and ready. You can't push them to do what they're not ready or willing to do. However, I've heard that a little encouragement in the potty department never hurt either.

Enter Go Potty Go! a charming video for toddlers that details the potty trifecta--the basics of using a toilet, the pride of wearing underwear instead of diapers, and the importance of hand-washing--in about 20 minutes. Colorful cartoon characters Paige and Parker Panda, along with their bevy of animal friends, sing, dance and engage children in an entertaining way, taking the stress out of the potty experience and turning it instead into great fun.

I was amazed that less than a day after watching the DVD for the first time, Delaney asked to sit on the potty and, not only that, she was productive if you get my drift. We'd read books to her about the potty and we'd discussed it at length up until that point, but it was only after viewing Go Potty Go! for the first time that she showed an interest in the potty all on her own without us suggesting it to her.

Go Potty Go! is the perfect length for squirmy toddlers who normally want to get up and run every few minutes. Delaney loves watching it and she'll sit for the duration of the show. She sings the songs and talks proudly about wearing "big kid underwear." And, while she's not 100% potty-compatible yet, she's on her way. I know that Go Potty Go! is helping her get there.

My only complaint about Go Potty Go? The tunes are so ridiculously catchy they'll still be playing in my head as I wave goodbye to Delaney and her prom date. But, if that means there won't be a diaper under her gown, it's definitely something I can live with.
