...she happens to have a rockin' husband and she happens to get sick on a weekend. Thank God for R.
Late Saturday night, as I was getting ready for bed, the rumbling began. It came from deep within and it grabbed me quickly and mercilessly. It was not pretty and it went on forever (well, maybe not forever, but it sure felt like it). I was up and down all night. Around 3:00 a.m. I gave up the good fight and R. Googled to find appropriate medicine for a nursing mom. I needed something, anything, to take the edge off. He found something adequate and went out in search of it. When he returned, I took a dose at 3:30 and fell asleep at 4:30, expecting to hear Delaney sometime around 7:00. The heavens smiled upon me because for some unknown reason, she slept until 8:00.
Nursing Delaney was about all I could manage on Sunday. I was weak, exhausted and feverish. R. took over completely, feeding Delaney her breakfast, playing with her, putting her down for naps, entertaining her, feeding her dinner and giving her a bath. Every few hours he would bring her to me and I'd nurse her as I lay in bed, motionless.
It would have been awful if I'd gotten sick and R. had to work. There was a point yesterday when Delaney and I were alone, when R. had gone out to get himself something for dinner. My fever returned with a vengence. My head was pounding. I could barely keep my eyes open. I sat Delaney in bed beside me and tried hard to concentrate on her, but I was so exhausted. I spent the next 30 minutes holding on to her and praying for R. to return. What if that 30 minutes had been eight hours or 10? What would I have done then? Luckily this time, I didn't need to find out.
My wonderful husband saved me and Delaney and they had a wonderful day together. She is, after all, her Daddy's girl.
You poor thing! I guess you are feeling a little better today? I would hope that if you are really sick that R would stay home from work or that you could call your mom (or me!) to help you out a little. Worse comes to worse, I guess you could take her to the gym and pass out in the locker room while she's in the nursery... (Just kidding!)
