Time for another obligatory update on all of the things Delaney's been doing for the last few weeks:
Teeth # 7 and # 8 (bottom on either side of the middle two) began to appear about two weeks ago and have popped out almost all the way.
Words Delaney can say: bye, go, baby, kiss, ball, mama, dada
Words Delaney tries to say: pretty, patty cake, peek-a-boo, wow, uh-oh, good girl
She dances (while sitting) when her Elmo boom box or any other music is playing.
For the several weeks now she's been banging two blocks together and dropping them into a bucket.
She plays the most adorable game of peek-a-boo by slapping her hands on the top of her head and grinning (sometimes she covers her eyes and sometimes not but she always gives you that delightful, playful grin).
She does lovely impersonations of the following animals: lion, duck, chicken, cow, fish, turkey. She's working on her frog and sheep impressions too.
Delaney can show you where her hair is and where her toes are when you ask her to show them to you.
She can point out many new of her new toys when you ask her to (her lion, a baby, lilly her Leapad frog, toy cars, her bear, blocks.
She loves to flip the light switch off in her bedroom after every diaper change.
She loves shaking her sippie cup when I put ice in it and responds to my request of, "Shake it, shake it!" by excitedly shaking and tossing the cup around until she ultimately shoves it onto the floor.
She's plays patty cake.
At the gym daycare they told me that she and another baby her age were sitting facing each other and sharing toys, taking turns handing toys to one another.
She can now crawl a few inches at a time and takes more risks with her crawling to get to coveted items each time she tries.
She can stand on her own when she holds onto something and sometimes can stand on her own for a few minutes without holding onto something.
She's such a happy, smiling, smart baby. And, her schedules are nearly like clockwork. She naps well, sleeps about 12 hours straight each night and almost never cries.
She's a little on the thin side (unlike her mother!), which her doctor told me not to worry about. We're starting to move her towards chunkier solid foods (although that's tough for me because I'm such a freak about her possibly choking!) and while she gags occasionally, she's beginning to adapt to them. She's also developed a darling little habit of spitting her food out sometimes (mostly the green veggies) while giving me mischievious looks to see what I'll do about it. I don't make a big deal out of it at all. I try another spoonful and if it happens again, we take a break or move on to another food. Her doctor told me that this behaviour usually surfaces, if it's going to, around 12 months but that it's a phase and usually passes. She does bite me during nursing once in a while (and MAN does it hurt!), but is good about stopping after I tell her, "No biting!"
She's always been pretty good about letting me brush her teeth but recently she's gotten wiggly during the process. She tries to grab the brush from me and sometimes clamps her tiny mouth shut, barring me entrance. She's a bit willful (very much like her mother) but I have to say that I enjoy that trait in her (talk to me in a few months to see if that's still the case).
Every day we have more fun together. I'm so blessed and lucky to be able to stay home with her and to get to watch her developments and changes. She's almost ten months old and I can't wait to see what the next month will bring.
Updated to add: Delaney tried Cheerios today for the first time. She loved them and I didn't freak out. It was so cool! Also, she learned what a snake says ("Ssssssssssssssssssss.").
Happy birthday! Isn't ms.thing just a clever monkey! Watchign them grow is such a bittersweet experience....I can't wait to hear Nell start to talk!
