I put Delaney to bed at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night and she went down without any problems. On Sunday morning, Roger and I woke to the sun streaming in our windows, the sounds of birds singing and...silence, from our daughter's room. Strange. Delaney always wakes us up with laughing or cooing from her crib, and it's almost always between the hours of 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. We NEVER wake up to silence. Something wasn't right. I grabbed my clock and squinted. 9:30. What the??? Oh, my god. Something's wrong, I thought. I shoved Roger awake and, as he sputtered obscenities at me for rousing him, shoved the clock at him. "It's 9:30. 9:30! Something's wrong with Delaney. Why isn't she awake?" But, before I could even get those words out, she started giggling over the monitor. She was up. She was OK. All was well. But, never, in her nearly one year of existence has she ever slept 14 1/2 hours straight!
Last night she slept 13 hours. It's been blissful, yes. But I need to start setting my alarm clock. Today we actually overslept and almost missed my trainer appointment at the gym. I always rely on Delaney to get me up by 7:00 a.m. but now that she's sleeping like a teenager, I guess I can't anymore.
That's awesome! Sleep is the most precious thing. (Well, besides our kids ya know) ;) The baby sleeps until 7 usually, but my 3-year-old loves to get up by 6:30 even on the weekends. Sigh...

Delaney sounds a lot like my Callie. She was (and still is!) a child who required a lot of sleep. Whenever I read those charts about the average amount of sleep a child needs at each age, she was always off the chart! I'm lucky . . . at 4 1/2 she still takes a nap almost daily, though she can skip and just go to bed earlier and be fine. Most of my friends are amazed that she still naps so regularly.
Now, Preston . . . ah that's another story! He just has a different body clock. Early to bed, early to rise. Late to bed, still early to rise, just cranky! About the longest night I can get out of him is 11 hours. Fortunately, he also takes good naps. At least 2 hours every afternoon, longer if we've had a busy morning. Yea!
However, I must say, I can't recall the last time I was in bed at 9:30 AM!! I'm jealous!!!!
